Welcome!

My niece joined the family on July 12th, 2010. This special young lady's mother is my younger sister, which in classic Chinese culture makes me her Jiu Jiu (舅舅) -- thus the title of this blog. Here I intend to semi-regularly post reflections, thoughts, stories, and assorted whathaveyous pertaining to our trip to China, adoption in general, and (mostly) watching my niece grow up. Since the web is a very public place, I will attempt to maintain my family's privacy while telling the story... but I invite you to follow the blog and come along for the adventure!

Believe It or Not, I'm Still Here...

Just a quick apology about the near-total silence 'round here lately.

My eye surgery went well, and recovery's been good, but that's not to say it isn't without its problems. The one that's keeping this blog on (temporary) mothballs is the ridiculous double vision that I now have when I get tired... or when I'm trying to read... or when I use a computer for more than, oh, about seven minutes... Argh.

Moving images aren't too bad; if I start seeing double (or even triple... nope, not kidding) I can close my eyes for just a few moments and all will again be copacetic for a while. But reading? OUCH. It's so tough after a long day and evening at work that I actually had to stop twice while typing that sentence, and I swear the image on my laptop's screen just slumped off to the left & slid off onto the keyboard...

I'm going to try posting earlier in the day, before I've had a full shift's worth of eyestrain, so maybe (just maybe) I'll get through typing in under an hour. I did manage to prep some photos today (8 photos took me almost 3 hours because I had to keep stopping!), but right now the eyestrain's just too much so I'm going to end this post now and try again after some sleep.

Sorry for an "all about me" whiny post, but I just wanted to let everyone know I actually do have a really good excuse for the prolonged silence. There will be Pipsqueak-oriented words and photos, I promise!

See y'all soon... (believe me, I have a whole new appreciation for that expression now!)
